Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (機動戦士ガンダム0080 ポケットの中の戦争) is a 1989 OVA anime series, marking the first OVA in the Gundam franchise. Set in the final days of the One Year War in Universal Century 0079, it differs from previous Gundam series by focusing on the perspective of an ordinary young boy named Alfred Izuruha, as he interacts with a Zeon pilot, Bernard Wiseman, and a Federation test pilot, Christina Mackenzie. The series is renowned for its delicate portrayal of war and its impact on ordinary people, moving away from the typical Newtype elements of Gundam and emphasizing the personal and emotional consequences of conflict. Directed by someone other than Yoshiyuki Tomino, with character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto and music by Tetsuro Kashibuchi, it was created to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Gundam franchise. This six-episode series, each approximately 27 minutes long, is celebrated for its profound themes and touching narrative, making it a unique and beloved entry in the Gundam universe.
