SinGyoku

Original Title:しんぎょく

Languages:

  • Chinese: 神玉
  • Japanese: しんぎょく
  • English: SinGyoku
SinGyoku (しんぎょく) is a character in the Touhou Project series, first appearing in the series' first game, Highly Responsive to Prayers. SinGyoku appears as a gatekeeper when Reimu Hakurei approaches the gates to Hell or Makai. Due to the lack of dialogue in the game and official profile, little is known about SinGyoku. Based on its appearance, SinGyoku is likely related to the Hakurei Shrine. In Highly Responsive to Prayers, SinGyoku has three forms: a yin-yang orb form, a human-like female form, and a male priest form. If SinGyoku's third form is indeed a male priest, then he would be the first male character in the Touhou Project series. Additionally, SinGyoku's male form is one of the few PC-98 characters whose hair and eye colors do not match. SinGyoku, as the first boss of the Touhou Project, has seen its yin-yang orb form used as a design prototype for many stage enemies in later works. Despite limited information, SinGyoku still holds a certain level of popularity among Touhou Project fans.
