Touhou Project

The Touhou Project (Japanese: 東方Project, Tōhō Purojekuto), also known as Touhou, is a Japanese dōjin game series primarily focused on danmaku (bullet hell) shoot 'em up games, created by Team Shanghai Alice. It also encompasses music CDs, manga, novels, and more. The series is known for its 2D vertical-scrolling gameplay, massive cast of characters, compelling storylines, and unique world-building. The setting is primarily in a secluded region called Gensokyo, where humans and youkai coexist and various incidents unfold. All games are created by ZUN, who is responsible for the programming, art, and music. The music, in particular, has received widespread praise from fans both in Japan and abroad. The Touhou Project has spawned a vast secondary creation community, producing fan-made games, music, manga, and more, becoming a prominent part of the dōjin culture.
