Her job is to gather human misfortune and to scare away humans who get too close to the Youkai Mountain. She collects misfortune by gathering Nagashi-bina dolls, which people use to transfer their misfortune. Although she is surrounded by misfortune, she herself is not affected. She gathers misfortune to prevent it from befalling humans again, transferring it to other gods. Hina is characterized by her aquamarine hair and eyes, her red dress, and red bows on her head and chin. She is always seen spinning, a reference to her ability to store misfortune. Despite the misfortune that she brings to those around her, she is not malicious towards humans, and is described as cheerful and sociable.
