Kanako Yasaka is a prominent character in the Touhou Project series. She first appeared as the final boss in Touhou Fuujinroku (Mountain of Faith), also appearing as a mid-boss in the extra stage. She is the current goddess of the Moriya Shrine, having taken over after defeating the previous deity, Suwako Moriya, in a great war. Originally a god from the Outside World, Kanako relocated her shrine to Gensokyo due to the decline of faith in the outside world. Her primary goal is to gather faith, and she approaches this in an unconventional way, treating religion like a business and actively promoting technological innovation. While called a god of wind and rain, her deeper ability lies in creating 'Qian,' which symbolizes the sky and leadership. She maintains a somewhat uneasy relationship with the tengu leaders while living at the shrine with Suwako Moriya and Sanae Kochiya. Kanako's emblem is a shimenawa with entwined snakes, symbolizing rebirth and eternity. Her personality is assertive and ambitious, but she also values cooperation and exploitation to achieve her goals. She has a deep interest in science and often introduces outside technology to Gensokyo.
