Yamame Kurodani is a character from the Touhou Project series, first appearing as the Stage 1 boss in Subterranean Animism. She is a tsuchigumo, an earth spider youkai, residing in the underground. She possesses the ability to manipulate diseases, primarily infectious ones. Despite her frightening power, she has an outgoing and combative personality, loves to fight, and does not misuse her abilities. She is popular among the underground youkai. Yamame Kurodani is usually depicted with brown eyes and blonde hair tied in a bun with a ribbon, wearing a black and brown dress. In the games, she has mistaken the heroine for an above-ground youkai and engaged her in combat. She also tried to enter Myouren Temple because she thought the people seeking help looked delicious. Her name, "Kurodani," means "black valley," and "Yamame" can be interpreted as "eight eyes," fitting her spider motif. Additionally, in games and spin-offs, she also displays an ability to manipulate spider silk and build structures.
