Junko

Junko (純狐), also known as Junko, is the main antagonist of the game *Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom* in the *Touhou Project* series. She is a sagacious spirit with the power to purify anything, and a sworn enemy of the Lunarians. Junko orchestrates an invasion of the Moon with the sole purpose of killing Chang'e in order to avenge her son. She has purified her resentment into a powerful force, becoming an embodiment of pure vengeance, even foregoing her identity. Her ability differs from the Lunarian or Shinto concept of purification; instead, she refines substances to remove impurities and return them to their divine state. She strengthened her own grudge with this power and transformed hell fairies into pure lifeforce beings. Junko's design is inspired by Chinese aesthetics, featuring a red and yellow outfit and seven purple flame-like tails. While driven by hatred, she is also shown to be calm and cunning, and does not wish for Gensokyo to be involved in her conflict. Her spell card patterns are also unique, typically utilizing simple circular danmaku shapes to reflect her intent to kill. Her backstory is linked to the Chinese mythological figure Chún Hú (Xuán Qī).
