Joutougu Mayumi

Mayumi Joutouguu, also known as 杖刀偶 磨弓, is the Stage 5 boss and Stage 6 midboss in the Touhou Project game *Wily Beast and Weakest Creature*. She is the head of the Haniwa Army Corps, created by Keiki Haniyasushin. Mayumi is fiercely loyal to Keiki, and she can turn her loyalty into strength. She is highly skilled in swordsmanship, archery, and equestrianism, and her combat ability is extremely high despite using old-fashioned techniques. Haniwa are known for their durability, resistance to illness, and lack of need for rest, leading to the prediction that they will replace the work of animal and human spirits. In the events of *Wily Beast and Weakest Creature*, Mayumi was responsible for guarding the Primate Spirit Garden. However, she was defeated by an animal spirit possessing a human, which resulted in the garden being invaded. Her character design is inspired by the haniwa, clay sculptures from Japan's Kofun period, and she is depicted wearing haniwa ornaments and wielding a haniwa-like weapon. Her name, “Joutouguu” likely derived from a military title, while “Mayumi” refers to her refined archery. Her ability to turn loyalty into strength makes her a vital fighting force under Keiki. Despite being fictional, Mayumi's background and design are rich with Japanese cultural elements.
