Enenra

Enenra (煙々羅), also known as smoke monster, is a Japanese youkai described as a spirit composed of smoke that resides in bonfires or rises out of houses, taking the form of a human. It is said that an enenra can only be seen by the pure-hearted. In the Touhou Project, Enenra first appeared in the official manga 'Forbidden Scrollery' in Touhou Bougetsushou. In the story, Hieda no Akyuu and Kosuzu Motoori unseal an enenra from the Hieda manuscript of Gazu Hyakki Yagyou in order to smoke out a "word-eating worm." However, the enenra escapes and goes around Gensokyo possessing households, being transferred through sight. Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame seek answers from Kosuzu, who lies about the enenra escaping after the worm ate the page it was on. Eventually, they reseal the youkai by burning items that youkai dislike, which generated a sacred smoke. Enenra also appears in Toriyama Sekien's "Gazu Hyakki Yagyou" series and "Konjaku Hyakki Shuui."
