  • English: Maribel Hearn
Maribel Hearn (マエリベリー・ハーン), also known as Merry, is a character from the Touhou Project series. She is a university student from the outside world, majoring in relative psychology. She often struggles to differentiate between dreams and reality, particularly concerning Gensokyo and other otherworldly realms. Maribel believes that subjectivity is more real than objectivity. Along with her friend Renko Usami, she has a keen interest in the paranormal. Their duo-club identifies as a necromancy club, but they focus more on investigating the possibilities of other worlds than traditional necromancy. They are particularly interested in Gensokyo, the Netherworld, and the Moon, and they appear to be among the few, if not the only, humans from the outside world who are aware of Gensokyo's existence. Maribel possesses the ability to see boundaries and frequently visits Gensokyo in her dreams, even bringing back physical items. As the story progresses, her ability enhances, allowing her to freely travel between worlds and even take Renko with her. Maribel is typically depicted with blonde hair, a purple dress, and a white mob cap. Her name and background are inspired by the writer Lafcadio Hearn.
