Charmander, known as Hitokage (ヒトカゲ) in Japanese, is a Fire-type Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise. It first appeared in the Generation I games, Pokémon Red and Blue, and is one of the three starter Pokémon in the Kanto region. Charmander is a bipedal, orange reptilian Pokémon with blue eyes, and a flame burning at the tip of its tail. The flame's size and intensity reflect Charmander's health and emotions; it is said that if the flame goes out, Charmander will die. Charmander evolves into Charmeleon at level 16, and then into Charizard at level 36. It has a significant presence in the anime, manga, and various games, and is one of the most popular Pokémon characters. Charmander is generally described as mild-mannered, but the flame on its tail will burn fiercely when it is angry. It is rarely found in the wild and is usually owned by trainers.
