Pidgey (Japanese: ポッポ Poppo) is a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves into Pidgeotto starting at level 18, which evolves into Pidgeot starting at level 36. Pidgey resembles a small, plump-bodied bird, primarily brown in color with a cream-colored underside and throat. The tips of its wings share the same cream color. Its beak and feet are a pinkish-gray. It has black markings around its eyes and a small crest of brown and cream feathers above its eyes. Pidgey is known for its docile nature, preferring to avoid conflict and often hiding in tall grass. When threatened, it will flap its wings to create a dust cloud for defense or escape. Pidgey has an extremely sharp sense of direction and can find its way back to its nest no matter how far it flies. In the Kanto and Johto regions, they were often used to deliver messages. Pidgey mainly eats small insects, such as Weedle and Caterpie. It has appeared multiple times in the anime series as a common and recognizable Pokémon.
