Sandshrew, known as Sando in Japanese, is a Ground-type Pokémon from the Pokémon series. It first appeared in Generation I and is known for its unique form and abilities. Sandshrew resembles an armadillo or pangolin, with a yellow, hard shell and a white underbelly. This Pokémon mainly inhabits arid regions and can protect itself by curling into a ball. Sandshrew evolves into Sandslash. In the Alola region, Sandshrew has a regional Ice/Steel-type form called Alolan Sandshrew, which has an ice-blue appearance and a hard ice shell on its back, preventing it from curling into a ball like its normal form. Alolan Sandshrew evolves into Alolan Sandslash when exposed to an Ice Stone. Both Sandshrew and its Alolan form have appeared in anime, manga, and games, making them popular characters in the Pokémon world.
