Magnemite, known as Coil (コイル) in Japanese, is a dual-type Electric/Steel Pokémon from the Pokémon franchise. It was introduced in Generation I as a pure Electric-type Pokémon, later gaining the Steel-type in Generation II. Magnemite resembles a metallic sphere with horseshoe magnets on each side, a screw on top of its head, and a large single eye. It levitates using electromagnetic waves and feeds on electricity. In the games, Magnemite evolves into Magneton, which can further evolve into Magnezone when exposed to a special magnetic field or a Thunder Stone. Despite its artificial appearance, Magnemite has shown emotions and the need to consume energy, as depicted in the Pokémon games and anime. They're commonly found in power plants or areas with strong magnetic fields. Evidence from ruins suggests their existence dates back at least 1,500 years.
