Grimer (Japanese: ベトベター Betbeter) is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is formed from sludge exposed to lunar X-rays, and its body is composed of putrid, hardened sludge and grime. Grimer emits an incredibly foul odor, and its pollution can cause entire cities to be abandoned; even weeds won't grow where it has appeared. Grimer thrives in filthy areas, such as factories, garbage dumps, sewers, and polluted water systems, and it survives by sucking up polluted sludge that is pumped out of factories. Its body is very malleable, allowing it to easily enter narrow spaces and pipes. As Grimer moves, pieces of its body break off to form new Grimer, which also worsens the stench around it. It attacks by using poisonous sludge, and it can also use Fire, Electric, and Ghost-type attacks. In Alola, Grimer has a Poison/Dark-type regional form that feeds on solid waste, with a dark green body, a yellow stripe on its jaw, and "teeth" formed of toxin crystals. Grimer evolves into Muk at level 38, and Alolan Grimer evolves into Alolan Muk.
