Magikarp (Japanese: コイキング) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is renowned for being one of the weakest Pokémon, often regarded as utterly useless in battle. Magikarp is a reddish-orange fish with large, vacant eyes, pink lips, and yellow fins and barbels. Its signature move is “Splash,” which does nothing but make it jump around, further contributing to its reputation for being ineffective. Despite its weakness, Magikarp possesses remarkable resilience and can thrive in nearly any body of water, even those that are heavily polluted. Interestingly, Magikarp evolves into the powerful Gyarados at level 20, making it one of the most dramatic evolutionary transformations in the Pokémon world. This evolution is inspired by the Chinese legend of carps leaping over the Dragon Gate to become dragons, symbolizing perseverance and hidden potential. Magikarp is a common sight in the Pokémon games, often dismissed by trainers until it evolves into the formidable Gyarados.
