Zapdos, known as サンダー (Thunder) in Japanese, is a Legendary Pokémon of the Electric and Flying-type, introduced in Generation I. It is one of the three Legendary birds of the Kanto region, alongside Articuno and Moltres. Zapdos is characterized by its sharp beak, predominantly yellow plumage, and jagged wings and tail feathers, giving it the appearance of being surrounded by lightning. Zapdos can manipulate electricity and is typically seen during thunderstorms, believed to reside within thunderclouds and drawing power from lightning strikes. When it flaps its wings, it produces crackling and snapping sounds, releasing electric shocks and even causing thunderstorms. It plays a significant role in the mythology of the Kanto region, strongly associated with weather and natural forces. In Generation VIII's Sword and Shield, a Galarian form of Zapdos was introduced, changing to a Fighting and Flying-type. This form is orange-red and more like a terrestrial bird, known for its powerful kicks.
