Dragonite, known in Japanese as Kairyu (カイリュー), is a dual-type (Dragon/Flying) pseudo-legendary Pokémon. It debuted in the first generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Green. Dragonite evolves from Dragonair starting at level 55 and is the final form of Dratini. Physically, Dragonite differs greatly from its pre-evolved forms, abandoning the serpentine sea-creature appearance for an orange, bipedal dragon-like form with wings. Dragonite is depicted as a kind-hearted Pokémon with human-like intelligence, said to be capable of flying faster than the speed of sound and circling the globe in sixteen hours. It is often portrayed as saving humans from drowning and leading lost ships to safety. However, when its environment is threatened, it can become aggressive and destructive. Dragonite is very rare in the wild, typically living near the sea. Some legends suggest the existence of an island somewhere in the ocean inhabited solely by Dragonite.
