Chinchou, known as チョンチー in Japanese, is a dual-type Water/Electric Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves into Lanturn starting at level 27. Chinchou resembles a small deep-sea fish with an oval-shaped blue body, two small fins, two stubby legs, and two long antennae tipped with yellow bulb-shaped sacs located at its rear. It has yellow eyes with plus sign-shaped pupils. Chinchou uses its antennae to generate negatively charged electricity for hunting, self-defense, and communication. It lives on dark ocean floors, rarely surfacing. During mating season, they gather in large groups on land, performing intricate rituals by flashing their antennae bulbs. This attracts onlookers who splash water on them to keep them hydrated. Chinchou’s antennae, which evolved from fins, have cells generating strong electricity that cause the Pokémon to tingle. Chinchou has appeared in various Pokémon anime episodes, manga, and video games.
