Mareep (Japanese: メリープ Meriipu) is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It resembles a blue sheep with fluffy cream-colored wool covering most of its body, a curly tuft on its head, and black and yellow stripes on its tail and ears. An orange orb at the end of its tail glows according to the amount of static electricity it has stored. Mareep's wool can store electricity, building a static charge through friction, and its volume increases when charged. Touching its wool when charged can result in a shock. Its wool grows continuously but is shed during the summer and regrows within a week. Mareep are often found on farms where their wool is used to make clothing. They are known for their mild disposition and tend to avoid battles. Mareep evolves into Flaaffy at level 15, and then into Ampharos at level 30. The design of Mareep may be inspired by sheep and the novel 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'. Its name, 'Mareep', is a combination of 'Mary' and 'sheep', and it is also an anagram of 'ampere', the unit of electrical current.
