Sunkern (Japanese: ヒマナッツ Himanuts) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It resembles a small, yellow seed with a sprout on top. It has no visible arms or legs, and its head is adorned with triangular protrusions encircling the sprout. Its body features three broad, brown, vertical stripes, two of which start above its eyes and extend downwards, with the third located below its mouth.
Sunkern is notably weak, with a base stat total of only 180, often considered one of the weakest Pokémon statistically. Despite this, it is capable of using a variety of Grass-type moves. Sunkern tries to conserve energy by moving as little as possible, as it stores nutrients for evolution. Its primary diet consists of morning dew found under plant leaves. Sunkern are known to fall from the sky in the early mornings, with their population exploding the year after a cold summer.
Sunkern evolves into Sunflora when exposed to a Sun Stone. It has appeared in various forms of Pokémon media, including anime, manga, and games, making it a recognizable character within the Pokémon universe, notable for its unique ecology and evolutionary process.
