Unown (アンノーン) is a Psychic-type Pokémon species from the Pokémon franchise, first introduced in the second generation games, Pokémon Gold and Silver. Unown are flat, thin Pokémon shaped like an eye, with appendages that make them resemble letters of the Latin alphabet or punctuation marks. They are entirely black, except for their white sclerae. There are 28 different forms, each corresponding to one of the 26 letters of the Latin alphabet, a question mark, and an exclamation mark. These forms are not evolutions, but rather are inherent to the species. Unown are believed to be similar to ancient writing and hieroglyphs. Their origins and relationship with written language remain a mystery. They typically inhabit their own dimension and rarely venture into the human world. In the Pokémon world, they tend to stick to walls, like engravings of ancient texts. It is said that a mysterious power emerges when multiple Unown gather together, and they can even warp reality.
