Phanpy, known in Japanese as Gomazou (ゴマゾウ), is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It resembles a baby elephant, with a light blue body, red markings on its ears, and a short trunk. Phanpy is known for its gentle nature, its habit of digging nests near rivers, and marking the surrounding trees with its trunk. Despite its small size, it is surprisingly strong and can carry an adult human on its back. Phanpy evolves into Donphan starting at level 25. In the anime, Ash owned a Phanpy that eventually evolved into Donphan. The Japanese name 'Gomazou' is a combination of 'small' and 'elephant'. Phanpy is also a popular character in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
