Mudkip (Japanese: ミズゴロウ Mizugorou) is a Water-type starter Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It is a small, quadrupedal, amphibious Pokémon resembling mudskippers and axolotls. Mudkip has a cyan blue body with a light blue neck, underbelly, and tail. It possesses a large segmented fin on its head and large orange cheeks with three pointed whisker-like feelers on each side. Mudkip can sense changes in air and water currents using the fin on its head, allowing it to perceive its surroundings. It breathes underwater using the gills on its cheeks and uses its powerful tail fin to propel itself through water. Despite its small size, Mudkip is surprisingly strong and capable of lifting and even crushing rocks larger than itself. In the wild, Mudkip typically inhabits swamps and wetlands, burying itself in the mud at the water's edge to sleep. It evolves into Marshtomp and then into Swampert.
