Mightyena (Japanese: グラエナ Graena) is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It evolves from Poochyena starting at level 18. Mightyena is a mammalian Pokémon that strongly resembles a mix between a canine and a hyena. It has mostly short, gray fur, with black lower legs, tail, and two thick, shaggy strips that run from behind its eyes down its body. It has red eyes with dark, triangular streak patterns below them, rhombus-shaped ears with dark insides, a red nose, and gray paw pads. Mightyena signals an impending attack by emitting a deep growl and flattening its body, and it bites savagely with its sharp teeth. They travel in packs of about ten members, following a strict hierarchy, and they are known to obey only trainers that they recognize as superior. This pack mentality enables them to work together to bring down their prey. Mightyena live in grasslands and savannas and can be found in some urban areas in search of food. In some games, Mightyena can even use Poison-type attacks, such as Poison Fang, but primarily it uses its Dark-type attacks.
