Wurmple (Japanese: ケムッソ Kemusso) is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It resembles a small caterpillar, with a primarily scarlet red body and a cream-colored underside. Wurmple has several prominent spines, including a long red one on its head, a yellow spike on its forehead, and two yellow spines on its rear. It possesses large yellow eyes with black pupils. Wurmple feeds on leaves and tree sap, using the spikes on its rear to peel bark off trees to access the sap. It has suction pads on its feet that allow it to cling to glass or branches. When threatened, particularly by predators like Swellow and Starly, Wurmple defends itself by releasing poison from its tail spikes and raising its rear. Upon reaching level 7, Wurmple randomly evolves into either Silcoon or Cascoon, which then evolve into Beautifly or Dustox at level 10, respectively. In some games, it may evolve into a third form, Scalcoon, evolving into Atlepidus later on. Wurmple's evolution is random, determined by its personality value, which players cannot control.
