Wailmer (Japanese: ホエルコ Hoeruko) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It is a spherical whale Pokémon with a dark blue top half and a tan underbelly, and no tail. It has two fins with finger-like appendages, baleen plates that resemble teeth, and a pair of nostrils on top of its head used as blowholes. Wailmer stores water in its body, which it can expel through its nostrils to startle people. When storing water, it can transform into a bouncy ball, bouncing higher with more water stored. It becomes lethargic when dry. Wailmer swims with its mouth open, consuming large amounts of food daily like Wishiwashi. It primarily lives in the sea, only able to survive on land for short periods, sometimes bouncing onto beaches to play. Occasionally, pods are found washed ashore, potentially from genetic memories of having once lived on land. Dhelmise and Sharpedo are known predators of Wailmer, and Cetoddle is considered a close relative. Wailmer evolves into Wailord starting at level 40.
