Trapinch (ナックラー, Nuckrar) is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It resembles an orange insect with a large head, powerful jaws, a white underside, and short, stubby legs. Trapinch inhabits arid deserts, where it digs bowl-shaped pits in the sand to trap prey. Rather than actively hunting, it waits patiently at the bottom of its pit for unsuspecting creatures to fall in, then uses its powerful jaws to capture them. Due to its disproportionately large head, Trapinch struggles to right itself if it flips onto its back, making it vulnerable to predators like Sandile. Trapinch evolves into Vibrava at level 35, and then into Flygon at level 45. It possesses the abilities Hyper Cutter, Arena Trap, and Sheer Force. The name “Trapinch” is a combination of “trap” and “pinch,” while the Japanese name “Nuckrar” may derive from “nutcracker” or allude to the mythical creature known as a “knucker” which is said to live in holes.
