Grotle (Japanese: ハヤシガメ) is a Grass-type Pokémon that debuted in the fourth generation games, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It evolves from Turtwig and further evolves into Torterra. Grotle is characterized by its large, yellow shell covering its back, which features three brown stripes and two bushes that sprout nuts. It has a yellow lower jaw with triangular cheek extensions, and three claws on each foot. Grotle inhabits forests, often found near water sources. It gains energy through photosynthesis and by consuming berries. Grotle can sense the locations of pure water sources and carries other Pokémon there. During the day, they leave the forest to sunbathe, allowing sunlight to reach the plants on their backs. The Japanese name "Hayashigame" comes from "hayashi" (woods) and "kame" (turtle).
