Piplup (Japanese: ポッチャマ Pochama) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It is a light-blue, penguin-like Pokémon covered in thick down to insulate against the cold. It has a dark blue head with a primarily white face, a short, yellow beak, and dark blue feathers that extend down its back and around its neck like a cape. Two white ovals are on its chest, and a light-blue crown-like marking sits above its beak. Known for its strong sense of self-pride, Piplup is not fond of accepting food or care from humans, making it challenging to bond with trainers. Despite its poor walking abilities, often falling, it puffs out its chest with pride. In the water, it is an excellent swimmer, diving for over ten minutes to hunt. Piplup is a prominent Pokémon in the animated series, most notably as Dawn's partner. It evolves into Prinplup and then Empoleon.
