Prinplup (Japanese: ポッタイシ Pottaishi) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It evolves from Piplup starting at level 16 and evolves into Empoleon starting at level 36. Prinplup is a penguin-like Pokémon, primarily dark blue with light blue markings on its face, wingtips, and lower body. It has a short yellow beak, and two large yellow ridges extending from its beak over the back of its head. Prinplup has four large white spots on its body, resembling buttons. Its wings are strong enough to knock over and snap trees. Prinplup is known for its high self-pride and prefers a solitary life. They are found in icy waters where they hunt for prey. Prinplup's song is described as being similar to the sound of a roaring tide. It's design is based on a crested penguin, and its body resembles a tailcoat with buttons, referencing penguin's black and white plumage.
