Chingling (Japanese: リーシャン Lisyan) is a Psychic-type Baby Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It is a small, yellow, spherical Pokémon resembling a jingle bell. Chingling has stubby arms and legs, and beady black eyes. It has circular openings on both sides of its mouth, and inside is a red orb that creates a ringing sound as it moves. This orb can also be vibrated to produce high-frequency cries, sometimes causing headaches in humans. On top of its body is a ring-like growth with a red-and-white striped rope through the middle, ending in short tassels. Chingling evolves into Chimecho when leveled up with high friendship during the night. Chingling communicate through different volumes and pitches of their cries. When happy they can sing beautiful melodies, but they can also produce ear-splittingly sharp sounds if they are threatened or distressed.
The design is based on the Suzu bells used at Shinto shrines. Its name “Lisyan” is possibly derived from the sound of a bell and a combination of “chime” and “youngling”. In the anime, Chingling has appeared in several episodes, including “The Bells Are Singing!” as Francesca’s Pokémon, and in “Battling a Cute Drama!” as Marilyn’s Pokémon.
