Mantyke (Japanese: タマンタ Tamanta) is a dual-type Water/Flying baby Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It resembles a manta ray, with a round body and wide, flat fins. Its back is dark blue, while its underside is light blue. There are two red spots with white outlines and a light blue, curved line on its back, creating the impression of a smiling face that varies slightly between regions. It has two long, curving antennae on top of its head and black eyes with eyelash-like markings underneath. Mantyke uses its antennae to sense subtle changes in ocean currents. It is known to be a friendly Pokémon, often approaching boats and swimming near the surface with schools of Remoraid. It frequently collaborates with Remoraid to fend off attackers. Due to its friendly nature, Mantyke is easily tamed and is popular for beach swimming tours. Mantyke found in the Galar region are known to be sluggish due to the colder waters. Mantyke evolves into Mantine when leveled up with a Remoraid in the party. Mantyke has appeared in several episodes of the Pokémon anime, including series such as Pokémon Advanced Generation and Pokémon Journeys. In Pokémon Journeys, Goh caught a Mantyke in Snowpoint City, which he later used in the Pokémon Iceberg Race. Mantyke's design is based on a manta ray. The pattern on its back resembles a smiling face. Its English name, “Mantyke,” is likely derived from “manta ray” and “tyke.”
