Whirlipede (Japanese: ホイーガ Wheega) is a dual-type Bug/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It is the evolved form of Venipede and evolves into Scolipede. Whirlipede is an insectoid Pokémon encased in a hard, segmented shell. It resembles a curled-up centipede. Its body is primarily purple and black with long, spine-like appendages on its front and rear. Its body is covered in smaller purple spikes. It has a large yellow eye at the center, surrounded by light purple scales with small red circles on them. Its curled-up body gives it the appearance of a tire. Whirlipede is generally motionless while storing energy for evolution but will move to stab approaching predators with its poison spikes. If attacked, it can quickly spin its body like a wheel and crash into opponents. It can move at about 60 mph. In the anime, Whirlipede debuted in Battling For The Love of Bug-Types!, under the ownership of Burgh. It has appeared in other episodes and as part of villain teams. Whirlipede is also featured in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
