Whimsicott, known as Elfuun in Japanese, is a dual-type Grass/Fairy Pokémon introduced in Generation V. Prior to Generation VI, it was a pure Grass-type. Whimsicott is a small, bipedal Pokémon resembling a ball of cotton. It has a brown body with a puffy white cotton-like substance covering its back, neck, and forehead. It features a green, star-shaped pattern on its back, similar to where a plant connects to its fruit. It has large, oval-shaped orange eyes, a grinning face, and green, curled horn-like appendages that appear to be its ears. Whimsicott is known for being a mischievous trickster, able to slip through narrow gaps to enter houses, move furniture, and leave cotton balls behind. It likes to grow its cotton in sunlight and will tear it off and scatter it if it builds up too much. Whimsicott can ride on whirlwinds and drift in the air. They are playful but rarely intend to harm others, and will actively intervene in their own pranks if they think someone will get hurt. Whimsicott evolves from Cottonee when exposed to a Sun Stone. It has appeared in various games, including Pokémon Sword/Shield and Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, as well as in the Pokémon anime series and manga. Whimsicott's design is likely based on a fully bloomed cotton plant and a sheep, and its behavior resembles tumbleweeds or dandelion seeds carried by the wind. Its mischievous nature may also be inspired by the Saci, a trickster figure in Brazilian folklore.
