Basculin, known as Bassrao in Japanese, is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It has three different forms: Red-Striped Form, Blue-Striped Form, and White-Striped Form. Red-Striped and Blue-Striped Basculin are often considered hostile, fighting each other for territory. The Red-Striped form has circular red eyes and jagged fins, while the Blue-Striped form has narrow blue eyes and smooth fins. They are often referred to as the "thug of the lake" or "thug of the river" and are known for their powerful bite. Neither of these forms can evolve. White-Striped Basculin, originating from the Hisui region, is a gentler form, and unlike the others, can evolve into Basculegion through a unique method of evolving after taking recoil damage. In Pokémon games, the different Basculin forms are usually found in different regions or versions, and may have different held items and abilities. Red-Striped Basculin may have the ability Reckless, Blue-Striped Basculin may have Rock Head, and White-Striped Basculin may have Rattled. Basculin has appeared in anime, manga, and games and is also region-exclusive in some games.
