Cofagrigus (Japanese: デスカーン Desukaan) is a Ghost-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It resembles an ornate, gold-plated sarcophagus with a blue headpiece, intimidating red slanted eyes, and a malevolent grin with sharp teeth. It evolves from Yamask starting at level 34. Cofagrigus is said to be made of solid gold, with four long, shadowy arms extending from its sides. The mask it held as a Yamask is now positioned on its forehead. Legends say that anyone who gets too close will be transformed into a mummy. It has a fondness for gold nuggets and often traps grave robbers who mistake it for a real coffin. Ancient tombs are often decorated with depictions of Cofagrigus, symbolizing the wealth of past kings.
In games, Cofagrigus has the ability "Mummy," which changes the ability of any Pokémon that makes contact with it to Mummy. In Pokémon GO, its strongest moveset is Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball. Cofagrigus's design is based on ancient Egyptian sarcophagi and mummies. The ability to turn people into mummies is similar to depictions of mummy curses in media. Its name, Cofagrigus, is derived from the words coffin, sarcophagus, and possibly egregious.
