Ferroseed (Japanese: テッシード Tesseed) is a dual-type Grass/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It resembles a spiked acorn, with a metallic body and sharp green thorns covering it. Ferroseed primarily inhabits caves, where it absorbs minerals from rocks through its spikes. When threatened, it shoots spikes and rolls away to escape. Its initial spike-throwing aim is poor but improves with practice. Ferroseed can also use absorbed minerals to grow moss, with different minerals producing moss with varying effects. It evolves into Ferrothorn at level 40. Ferroseed's design may be based on cockleburs, durians, horse-chestnut seeds, or datura fruits, all of which are known for their tough skin and thorns. It may also be inspired by a mace. Its English name “Ferroseed” is a combination of "ferrous" (containing iron) and "seed", while the Japanese name “Tesseed” combines “鉄” (tetsu, iron) and “seed.”
