Froakie (ケロマツ) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI, and it is one of the starter Pokémon of the Kalos region. Resembling a frog, Froakie has a light-blue body with a white, frothy collar of bubbles called “Frubbles” around its neck. Its front feet are white, and it has a dark blue stripe running from its head to its nose. Froakie has large, protruding yellow eyes and is known for its ability to create and use resilient bubbles for both defense and offense. Despite its carefree demeanor, Froakie is very alert and attentive to its surroundings. It is both light and strong, enabling it to jump incredibly high. Froakie evolves into Frogadier at level 16, and then into Greninja at level 36. Its Japanese name, "Keromatsu," is derived from the onomatopoeia for a frog's croaking, "kerokero," and the word for bubble, "matsu.” Froakie has appeared in the anime and manga, with Ash’s Froakie being a notable example as it evolves into Greninja. The design of Froakie is inspired by frogs, with its bubbly features drawing from the foam nests created by some frog species for egg protection.
