Scatterbug (Japanese: コフキムシ Kofukimushi) is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It is a small, larval Pokémon with a black body and a white ruff of fur around its neck. Its head is relatively large, with a line bisecting it from forehead to mouth, beige eyes with square pupils, and a single pointed tooth. Scatterbug has a three-segmented body, with pairs of stubby legs on each segment. It consumes various plants, including poisonous leaves and roots. It converts ingested poison into a black powder that it scatters on its body. This powder can cause paralysis on contact and deters bird Pokémon. It also regulates its body temperature, allowing it to adapt to various climates. Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa at level 9, which evolves into Vivillon at level 12. Scatterbug and Spewpa each have 20 forms that determine the Vivillon's pattern. These forms are determined by the geographical location set when the game save file was created, although in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, all hatched Scatterbug evolve into Fancy Pattern Vivillon unless they are caught with an active postcard. Scatterbug's design may be inspired by carpet moth larvae or silk moth larvae.
