Honedge (Japanese: ヒトツキ Hitotsuki) is a dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It resembles a medieval sword, with a blue gem embedded in its hilt, which is said to be its true form. A long, dark blue cloth is attached to the pommel, splitting into four tassels at the end. Honedge's sheath is dark brown with curved lines, and three holes at the top give it a face-like appearance. Legend says that Honedge was born from the soul of a person killed by the very sword it inhabits. It can wrap its cloth around those who grab its hilt, draining their life energy. In battle, Honedge can unsheathe its blade to attack. It evolves into Doublade at level 35, and then into Aegislash using a Dusk Stone. Honedge has also appeared in the anime series, notably as one of Sawyer's Pokémon in the *Pokémon XY* series, evolving into Doublade and then Aegislash. Other Honedge have been shown owned by other trainers across the anime series as well, indicating its prevalence in the Pokémon world. Honedge’s design may be inspired by cursed or haunted magical swords, as well as the Japanese concept of *tsukumogami*. The unique dual-type, attack style, and backstory make it a very distinctive presence within the Pokémon franchise.
