Helioptile, known as Erikiteru in Japanese, is a dual-type Electric/Normal Pokémon introduced in Generation VI in Pokémon X and Y. It is a small, lizard-like Pokémon with a pale yellow body, black feet, and a black tail tip. Helioptile has frill-like extensions on either side of its head that can expand to absorb sunlight and generate electricity. This allows it to thrive in desert environments without needing to eat. Helioptile relies on solar energy; if this process is interrupted, it becomes weakened. It is one of the few Pokémon that can learn the move Electrify. Helioptile evolves into Heliolisk when exposed to a Sun Stone. In the anime, Helioptile first appeared in 'The Journalist from Another Region!' as Alexa's companion Pokémon. Its design is likely inspired by frilled-neck lizards, spotted salamanders, and common lizards.
