Sandygast, known as スナバァ (Sunabaa) in Japanese, is a dual-type Ghost/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. It resembles a pile of sand with a red shovel stuck into its top. Sandygast is said to be formed when supernatural forces possess mounds of sand built by children, or from the grudges of fallen Pokémon or people. They inhabit beaches, using their shovels to lure children, and those who touch the shovel or put their hand in its mouth fall under its control. It uses this power to make children add sand to its body so it can become bigger. Sandygast is very protective of the shovel on its head, replacing it with other objects when lost, and seeks to regain it. Sandygast attacks by flinging sand, but its slow speed often allows prey to escape. In the Alola region, sticking one's hand in Sandygast's mouth is a test of courage. Sandygast evolves into Palossand at level 42.
