Applin, known as Kajitchu in Japanese, is a dual-type Grass/Dragon Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII. It resembles a small, green worm-like creature hiding inside a red apple, with only its eyes (resembling apple leaves) and tail visible. Shiny Applin reside in green apples. Applin spends most of its life inside an apple, using it to protect itself from predators like bird Pokémon, disguising itself as an ordinary apple. The apple serves as its food source, and its flavor determines Applin's evolutionary path. Applin’s body fluid strengthens the apple's skin and prevents rotting. If separated from its apple, Applin becomes weak. Applin can evolve into Flapple, Appletun, or Dipplin, depending on whether it consumes a Tart Apple, Sweet Apple, or Syrupy Apple, respectively. Applin’s design might be inspired by worms in apples and various mythical dragons, such as Ladon who guards golden apples, the serpent in the Bible often depicted as a dragon, or the Lindworm.
