Chien-Pao (Japanese: パオジアン Paojian) is a dual-type Dark/Ice Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IX. It is a member of the Treasures of Ruin. Chien-Pao is a feline Pokémon with an elongated body composed of what appears to be snow, with diamond-shaped ice crystals running down its back and legs. Its eyes, whiskers, and claws are also made of ice. Two sharp, ice-tipped weapons form its large fangs; one resembling a sword's blade, the other its hilt, with the broken ends jutting through its upper jaw. Chien-Pao's true form is the broken sword that forms its fangs, brought to life by the hatred of those killed by it, while its body is a form it has constructed using its control over ice. It is said that Chien-Pao can control 100 tons of fallen snow, causing avalanches and playing innocently within them. Chien-Pao is known as the Sword of Ruin. It, along with the other Treasures of Ruin, are the only Pokémon capable of learning the move Ruination. Chien-Pao is also the only known Pokémon with the ability Sword of Ruin. Chien-Pao's design may be based on the snow leopard and prehistoric saber-toothed cats, like Smilodon. The sword-like parts of its fangs might be inspired by bronze swords, particularly the Chinese double-edged straight sword, the Jian. Its name is likely a combination of jiàn (剑/劍), meaning "sword," and bào (豹), meaning leopard.
