Professor Elm

Professor Elm (Japanese: ウツギ博士, Romaji: Utsugi-hakase) is a renowned Pokémon Professor in the Johto region, residing in New Bark Town. He is known for his specialization in Pokémon breeding and is credited with the discovery of Pokémon Eggs. In the games and anime, Professor Elm provides new trainers with the starter Pokémon of the Johto region, namely Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. He is often portrayed as somewhat absent-minded due to his deep involvement in research, sometimes even forgetting to eat. Professor Elm is also interested in unusual Pokémon abilities and has a mentor-rival relationship with Professor Oak. He is a kind-hearted man, well-liked by many, including Nurse Joy of New Bark Town, despite his occasional disagreements with others over research. In the anime, Professor Elm has aided the main characters, introducing them to Pokémon Eggs and various Pokémon characteristics. He has also worked with Captain Marius to study the origin of life in the Whirl Islands, using his Corsola to assist the protagonists. He is a passionate researcher with a touch of forgetfulness, making him an endearing character.
