Drayden

Drayden (Japanese: シャガ, Shaga) is a prominent character in the Pokémon franchise. He serves as the Gym Leader of Opelucid City in the Unova region, and he is also the city's mayor. Drayden is a Dragon-type Pokémon specialist, renowned for his strength and deep understanding of Pokémon. In Pokémon Black, he is the final Gym Leader that players must challenge to obtain the Legend Badge. He is a tall, muscular man with a white beard that gives him a strict yet respected appearance. His unique feature is his beard, which covers his mouth and resembles the lower jaw of a reptile. Beyond the games, Drayden appears in the Pokémon anime, manga, and other related works. In the Pokémon anime series, he plays a significant role, interacting with protagonists Ash and Iris. He values discipline and encourages people to reach their full potential. Drayden's Japanese name, 'Shaga,' may come from 'Shaka' (Gautama Buddha), hinting at his mystique as a Dragon-type master, or from 'Shakai' (society), referring to his role as mayor, or from the fringed iris flower, which is also called 'Shaga'.
